About

Kemila Velan was “born” June 22, 2005 and “died” Nov. 8, 2008. She was a businesswoman and a yoga teacher.

In June 2006, Kemila answered an ad on Craigslist. A company in Coconut Grove was seeking a news editor to write profiles about these rare kinds of investors. It turned into TheAngelJournal.com, which also featured original articles about best practices in early stage investing and online workshops for entrepreneurs who wanted to learn how to build investible companies.

This experience eventually led Kemila to Hazel Henderson and EthicalMarkets.com in January 2008. She organized a panel of angels at The Women’s Congress and built The Power of Yin, an online TV show featuring female angel Investors.

While working in the corporate marketing world, Kemila continued to teach yoga at The Standard Hotel and La Gorce Country Club. Unbeknownst to Kemila, the philosophy of yoga was starting to mix with the tactics of marketing.

By the end of 2008, Kemila died from a chemical blast caused by accidentally mixing too much yoga philosophy into the hard-core capitalist marketing world…and vice versa.

Now she is an angel whose spirit lives on in this blog.
